’ve been told so many times that since I was African American, I couldn’t be scene. The minute people see me, they shove me in the stereotypical ‘black girl’ standard. That, I was loud and obnoxious, that my hair was nappy and that I have 100 dollar weave. Well I am here to say that that is not the case. I’m loud, yes but my hair is long, straight, and without any naps. I’ve never had a weave in my entire life. I listen to bands like Bring Me the Horizon, iwrestledabearonce and Jeffree Star and wear jeans that are tight. So yeah, my hair is thicker, voice louder, skin darker ass bigger, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be scene. There are plenty of scenesters out there who aren’t just white, but Asian, Indian, Mexican, all types of nationalities. We are all under one definition, and we are all unique. For other African American scene girls out there, I would like to say that you should stay true to who you are. There will be people who judge you and there will be people who make fun of who you are, and what you do. Don’t let anyone get you down, and once again, stay true to who you are.
